Who was George Washington Carver? (? - 1943)

George Washington Carver (? – 1943) was a botanist and inventor. He was the first African American to get a degree from Iowa State University.

Through Carver’s research, he helped countless people by creating hundreds of useful products such as medicine, flour, ink, soap, and lotions from peanuts, sweet potatoes, and soybeans. With his Jesup Wagon, Carver taught others how to treat plant fungal diseases and restorative farming techniques.  Did you know that he promoted racial harmony and once traveled to India and spoke with Mahatma Gandhi about improving nutrition in developing nations?
