Teaching Children About Juneteenth

During the third year of the US Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln issued the  Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863. It set free all enslaved people in the "rebellious states".

Juneteenth is the commemoration of the announcement which was made in Galveston, Texas on June 19, 1865.

Juneteenth became a federal holiday in the United States in June 2021.

We are grateful that we have wonderful children's books about the holiday to educate them about the importance of remembering this life-changing moment in history.
