Bold In My Black with Author and Educator, Beth Bolden

We are GRATEFUL for the support from our friend, Beth Bolden. Beth is a nationally certified educator and author. In addition to writing books that celebrate the beauty of diversity and friendship, she has created a platform that promotes having a healthy mindset about the various skin tones of all people in the African diaspora. Beth's "Bold in My Black" shirts feature the hues of brown we see every day. Our colors don't have to divide us; they should make us closer. Some of Beth's shirts represent the colors of Black Greek fraternities and sororities.  Go Beth! THANK YOU for helping us!

Life Is No Fairy Tale by Sujan Dass and Illustrated by Lord Daniels

Parents, we have never read a book like this! Life Is No Fairy Tale by Sujan Dass is perfect for urban young readers. Each page is filled with a message about both trouble and TRIUMPH! Dass spins a rhyming story of a young boy enduring the challenges of growing up in a socioeconomically disadvantaged community, yet he is RESILIENT and kind and keeps HOPE in his heart. Life Is No Fairy Tale is highly recommended by the Avant-garde Books Team! The book also comes with an audio CD loaded with wonderful activities.

Does your child have a copy of "Have You Thanked An Inventor Today?" by Patrice McLaurin?

Have You Thanked An Inventor Today? by Patrice McLaurin is a highly recommended STEM book for children eight years old and up.  This beautifully illustrated book includes the often forgotten contributions of African-American inventors that contributed to the American landscape. It chronicles the school day of a little boy, highlighting different inventions that he uses throughout the day, all of which were invented by African-Americans.  It also has brief biographies about each inventor as well as fun activities to promote and encourage reading comprehension.  Have You Thanked an Inventor Today? was selected by Microsoft as a book that inspires STEM and also received a 5 Star Rating from Reader's Favorite! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

#GoodDadsMatter Reading to very young children helps build their vocabulary and the correct use of language structure.

When children are very young, they cannot read, write or speak well. Listening is the way that they learn vocabulary and the correct use of language structure. The more you read to them, the more words they will know. Be like this wonderful father who is making sure his daughter hears engaging stories every night! Come see us at the Mall West End every Tuesday through Saturday (1-7 p.m.). Our Online Store

Parents encourage reading by setting good examples for their children.

If you are a parent who is trying to get your child or children to read, we have the perfect solution for you: start reading yourself. That's right! Young children are like video recorders; they emulate and imitate what they see others do. Setting a good example as a reader is one of the BEST ways you can encourage reading. Let us help you! Come see us every Tuesday through Saturday at the Mall West End (-1-7 p.m.) or shop for GREAT books at our
Let's read together!
